The cables for this hat were inspired by all the beautiful, cabled hats I see every year in my favorite winter and holiday movies. I can just imagine my favorite leading ladies wearing this beanie as they walk down a snowy, twinkle lit sidewalk or while they are building a snowman with the leading man.
The Twisted Cable Beanie also makes a wonderful gift for any occasion. The cables pop and are super squishy, making the texture amazing, but fun to create.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The Twisted Cable Beanie is crocheted flat, bottom up. After decreasing, the hole at the top is closed and then the back of the hat is seamed. A mattress seam can be used to create an invisible seam, making the cables flow beautifully around this beanie. And a furry pom pom is the perfect final touch!
THE HOOKS
This pattern uses two hooks, but you only need one cord and stopper. The hooks that I use are from the Clover Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Set. First, the size H 5.00 mm hook with the cord and stopper, is used for the brim of the hat and then the cord and stopper is switched to a size J 6.00 mm hook for the body of the hat. The size H 5.00 mm hook (without the cord) is then used to make the twisted cables when needed throughout the pattern.
THE YARN
Designed with Universal Yarn Uptown Worsted or made with other suitable worsted weight yarns, this beanie is super warm and great for any winter activity that you have planned!
THE PEARLS/BEADS
The instructions to add pearls or beads are included, which give this beanie an elegant touch. The pearls are easily added with a steel crochet hook as you crochet so no pre-stringing the pearls before starting this project!
THE SIZE
This beanie is one size fits most adults and it will stretch from 20 inches to 23 inches.

- twisted cable:
sk next 5 sts and insert the hook into the next st just like for a tks (image 2), stretch out the work (image 3), yo (image 4) and pull up a loop to finish the tks (image 5) and tks into the next 3 sts. (image 6)

With the second hook (image 1), tks into the first 4 sk sts. (image 2) Slide these sts onto the first hook by twisting the second hook straight up and while keeping it in the front (image 3), insert the hook into the first st on the second hook (image 4), slide the first hook through the rest of the sk sts (image 5) and slide the sts onto the first hook and off of the second hook. Notes And Other Tutorials
- This pattern is worked flat with the right side of the work facing.
- At the beginning of each row, the first stitch is on the hook and counts as a Tunisian knit stitch.
- To finish this hat, you will close the hole at the top of the hat and then seam up the back.
- The circumference of the hat will be smaller than the finished width after it is seamed.
- There is a gauge for this hat but there are also measurements throughout the pattern.
- The Size H 5.00 mm tunisian hook is used to start this hat and it is also used as the second crochet hook during the cable rows.
How To Finish The Brim and Start The Body:
R6: Forward Pass: *ch 1, tss2tog sl st. Repeat from the * across until 1 st remains, insert the hook behind the last two vertical bars (image 2), yo (image 3), and pull through the loops on the hook (image 4).

ch 1 (image 2), turn the work so that the bottom is now the top, sl st up the side (into the end of each row) six times (image 3).

*Should measure approximately 2" tall.
How To Add Pearls Or Beads:
R11, R17, R23, & R29.
Insert the hook into the next stitch (image 2), put a pearl on the small hook (image 3), yarn over the small hook with the working yarn (image 4), pull through the pearl and pull a loop (image 5), take the small hook out of the loop made (image 6), put the main hook through the loop made (image 7), and pull through the stitch making sure the pearl pops through. (image 8)
How To Change Colors For A Two Color Beanie:
