Hello! It's finally here, the release of the Alex Beanie! I'm so excited to share this pattern with ya'll and I hope ya'll love it as much as I do! The Alex Beanie has an interesting texture with wavy faux knit cables, and the flip up brim makes it comfortable, stylish, and warm. The fabric created makes this hat very warm, the perfect accessory for cold fall and winter days and nights. This hat is so squishy soft and comfortable, so fun to wear! Especially nice on mornings when I need to run the kiddo to school and my hair is an absolute mess!
I love how the flip up brim has a different texture then the rest of the hat, and it totally looks knit!

The body of the hat has a wavy faux knit cable that actually looks knit but is so easy to create! And I love a fuzzy faux fur pom pom, it really completes this hat in my opinion!

- Size G (4.00mm) crochet hook or size needed for correct gauge
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Medium 4 worsted weight yarn (approximately 170 grams for the hat only)

Abbreviations
ch: chain
st: stitch
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet
tc: triple crochet
sc2tog: single crochet decrease
yo: yarn over
Notes
The body of the hat is worked flat in rows and the decreases are worked in the round.
sc2tog: Insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.

How To Crochet Into The 3rd Front Loop:
Normally you would insert your hook into the front loop, back loop or both loops at the top of the stitch. If you tilt your work and look at the top of the stitches, you will see the v that the front and back loop make.
Instead of working into those loops, tilt your work and look at the loop at the front of your work. This is the 3rd front loop that you will be working into.
The Pattern
Please read all notes before beginning the pattern.
should measure about 12 inches long
R2: ch 2 (does not count as a stitch here and throughout the pattern) and turn your work, hdc into the next 41 sts, hdc into the 3rd front loop into the next 14 sts. =55
R3: ch 2 and turn your work, hdc BLO next 14 sts. Working into the 3rd front loop: dc into the next st, hdc into the next st, sc into the next st, sl st into the next st, *sc into the next st, hdc into the next st, dc into the next st, tc into the next st, dc into the next st, hdc into the next st, sc into the next st,
sl st into the next st. Repeat from the star 3 more times. sc into the next st, hdc into the next st, dc into the next st, tc into the next st, dc into the last st. =55
R4: Repeat R2.
R5: ch 2 and turn your work, hdc BLO next 14 sts. Working into the 3rd front loop: *sc into the next st, hdc into the next st, dc into the next st, tc into the next st, dc into the next st, hdc into the next st, sc into the next st, sl st into the next st. Repeat from the star 4 more times. sc into the last st. =55
R6-R60: Repeat R2, R3, R2, R5.
Should measure approximately 19.5 inches
Do not cut the yarn.
Seaming
Fold in half with the wrong side out.
R1: ch 1, insert the hook through the 3rd front loop of the same st, and insert the hook through the BLO of the st across (on the other side of the rectangle), yo and pull through all 3 loops on the hook, creating a sl st. Repeat across.
Do not cut the yarn.
Decreasing
Turn right side out.
R1: ch 1, sc2tog into the same and the next row, *sc into the next row, sc2tog next 2 rows. Repeat from the star around, sl st to the 1st st of the row. =40
R2: ch 1, sc2tog into the same st and the next st, *sc2tog. Repeat from the star around, sl st to the 1st stitch of the round. =20
Cut the yarn but leave the tail end long enough to whip stitch the top closed.
Closing The Hole
Cut the yarn, leaving the tail long enough to whip stitch the top closed, pull through the last stitch, thread the darning needle and whip stitch around, pulling tightly as you go to close the hole.
Weave in all ends.
Add a pom pom, flip the brim up and you are done!
