Bees On Earth: Save The Bees Campaign

Hello! Happy Earth Day! When I found out that it was the 50th anniversary for Earth Day, I knew I wanted to do something really special. I sat down and thought about it for awhile and what better way to celebrate Earth Day, then to raise awareness for saving the bees! I've created an easy list of 10 simple things we can do to help our bee populations and I've also created a fun amigurumi bee, Clover The Bee for Clover!! Scroll down for the list and free pattern (plus free printable tag)!

As a child and teenager, I spent a lot of time outside with my family. We were either playing games, swimming, exploring, sunbathing, all the usual stuff. Some of my favorite memories are of my mom and sisters sunbathing, relaxing in the sun and then all of a sudden we would hear a buzz. That meant that all of my sisters and my mom would run in the house screaming and yelling. I would just sit there, chuckling, knowing that the bees wouldn't bother me if I didn't bother them. Even back then I understood that the bees were important and they were just doing their job.

Bees are very important for our environment and food supply. There are a lot of ways that we can help the bees and they aren't that hard either! Some of the ways that we have been helping this year is by buying a pollinator bee hotel, planting flowers and I made a bee watering hole. Look at my full list below to see some easy ways that you can help out too!

If you crochet, I also have a brand new free pattern on the Clover blog! Clover The Bee is an adorable little bee and if you decide to make one as a gift or to sell, I also have tags that you can add that have 5 ways that you can help save the bees. Scroll down for the pattern and free tag!

10 Things You Can Do To Help Bees

1. Start a bee garden and plant flowers and flowering herbs that are native to your area. Plan and schedule so that you will always have something blooming in spring, summer, fall, and late fall.

2. Let your yard or a portion of your yard grow and use the weed eater less. Chances are, the good native stuff that the bees in your area will love, is already growing!

3. Give the bees in your yard some water by installing a water fountain, garden pool/pond or you can even make a small "watering hole" by filling a bowl with clean water and placing rocks and or sticks in the water so the bees can land on them to get a drink or bathe.

4. Not all bees live in hives. Some bees are solitary bees that stay in holes and other places. You can build bee hotels or buy a bee hotel. If you are buying one, do the research and make sure it is a good one for bees.

5. Do not use pesticides and herbicides. Instead use a water bath for birds to eat the insects or plant plants that are natural insect repellents.

6. Protect swarms by reporting to local authorities or bee keepers to safely remove.

7. Do not kill or hurt bees!

8. Start your own bee hive.

9. Support local beekeepers by buying local honey or you can also sponsor a bee hive too!

10. Spread awareness! One great way to spread awareness is to crochet my Clover The Bee, and add the FREE Bees On Earth Tag with 5 ways you can help the bees, so more people know how to help too! Click here for the free pattern of Clover The Bee! Click here for the free printable tag pdf!
